Sump Pump Not Working: What To Check
Won't start, runs nonstop, or can't keep up? The usual sump pump culprits and when to get help before the next storm.
Won't turn on
Check that the pump is plugged in and the breaker is on. A stuck float switch is one of the most common reasons a sump pump fails to start — the float must move freely to trigger the pump.
Runs constantly or can't keep up
Continuous running can mean a stuck float, an undersized pump, a high water table, or a failed check valve letting water flow back into the pit.
